Hi!    Thanks for stopping by my page.

My name is Holly Timm, also known as MaMaT on IRC (chat) and the position I am running for is that of National Coordinator. I have been with the USGenWeb Project since a week or two after its beginnings in Kentucky in May of 1996.

I have served in several capacities in this project, coordinating various counties over the years and am presently State Coordinator of NYGenWeb, Representative At Large on the Advisory Board and coordinator or co-coordinator for several counties.

I have some rather decided opinions on the duties and responsibilities of the position of National Coordinator in particular and the Advisory Board as a whole and they are based on the definitions below:

coordinate

  • To work together harmoniously
  • To bring order and organization to
  • To bring into common action, movement, or condition

communicate

  • To convey information about; make known; impart
  • To have an interchange, as of ideas, thoughts, or feelings
  • To express oneself in such a way that one is readily and clearly understood
  • To be connected, one with another

cooperate

  • To work or act together toward a common end or purpose.
  • To form an association for common benefit
  • To work together on a common enterprise or project

The title of the position I seek is National Coordinator and to me that means someone who coordinates and facilitates national level affairs. Not someone who makes the decisions themselves based on their own thoughts and ideas or who tries to force certain results but someone who moderates and facilitates the board's efforts to reach a decision on an issue.

This includes communicating with the board and with the rest of the project about issues and problems and communication is not only speaking/writing information but LISTENING to and encouraging input from others which means everyone in this project, CC's, SC's, SP people and even our visitors.

It also means working for cooperation and communication between everyone. It is a two way street. I know of no means other than encouragement to make it happen but communication with respect for others even those we disagree with... and communication when a problem starts when there is hope of cooperation, compromise and agreement rather than waiting until opposing positions are set in concrete.

Aside from facilitating decision making by the board, the National Coordinator tends to the day-to-day business... what does that mean? Pretty much acting like a post office and help desk combined... passing on email inquiries to the appropriate person (or to the board) and answering others as need be. That, and bringing new business before the board and the project such as promoting the project, providing html and web site assistance for our volunteers and other such thoughts.

If I am elected, I will try to be as I have said above... open-minded, impartial and a positive element in and for this project which I love dearly.

Respectfully,
Holly Timm
